All GEM thermal covers are bespoke and made to measure.
To manufacture a bespoke thermal cover a number of measures are taken from each exposed piece of pipe work in the plant room. (GEM Survey).
These measures include the length, the circumference, theĀ position of gap/ apperture/screw/extrusion and the width of the gap. Multiple measures are taken from larger and awkward items to be covered.
A detailed specification is drawn up for manufacture.
The outer cover of the thermal cover is made from glass frabric, flame retardant alkali free with a silicone polymer coating.
The thermal cover infill is 50mm foil backed alkalkine earth silicate (AES) with a thermal conductivity of just 0.05 W/MK at 100 degrees C
The thermal cover is stitched with double thread stainless steel yarn with a PTFE coating similar to Teflon
The thermal cover is then sealed with strong velcro strips and a hem is stitched to allow for the Nomex pull cords at top and bottom.
All thermal covers are swen in one piece so no thermal bridging occurs. In larger thermal covers pins are used to support the internal insulation and to ensure it does not sag over time
