Gem Energy installed heat traced insulation jackets at a Co Kildare waste water treatment plant to protect critical motorised valves and actuators from freezing and seizing during cold weather.

The jackets were seamed to allow for the passage of the heat trace and the design incorporated a see through window to the actuator trip switch so a quick visual inspection would tell if the actuator needed to be reset as opposed to having to remove the jacket each time a fault appeared.

An ambient temperature sensor supplied by Gem invokes the heat trace and is set for 5C external.
