Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
What is Corrosion Under Insulation:
Corrosion Under Insulation … this is when water penetrates insulation causing the corrosion of steel piping, vessels and other assets. It is often a major cause of repair and maintenance work and can be costly to reverse or fix fully.
Identification of CUI:
Water ingress and the development of moisture in insulation will usually lead to a significant change in the heat profile of the insulation. Thermographic inspections can be carried out periodically in order to identify these CUI areas.
Leak detection jackets, which change colour dependant on the reagent type, can also act as a first indicator of leaks.
Standard Insulation jackets with silicone cloth covers will not readily absorb moisture into the insulation infill and early leak detection from valves, flanges and actuators is readily identifiable and more easily accessible for repair with the jacket then easily re-fitted
